Reenactor Registration

The Taste of History event is a timeline event of military impressions. All eras are welcome from the Roman Legions to modern day, with a special emphasis on the food of the common soldier. This provides a unique level of interaction with the public. Please read all information below before proceeding to the registration link at the bottom of the page.

The Taste of History 2026 Event dates: Thursday - Sunday June 18-21, 2026 in Amherst, Ohio

 

Event location: Sandstone Village, 763 Milan Ave, Amherst, Ohio 44001.

 

Setup begins on Wednesday, June 11 at 8am and needs to be completed by Friday at 7 am. All modern vehicles need to be moved from the site by 7am both Friday and Saturday. Sunday will be a pack up day.

 

The Taste of History event is a timeline event of military impressions. All eras are welcome from the Roman Legions to the modern day, with a special emphasis on the food of the common soldier. This provides a unique level of interaction with the general public.

 

There will also be space provided for wartime civilian home front and camp follower displays. While the event is centered around providing period correct meals from field kitchens, there is also adequate space for historical displays including military vehicles, static displays, and weapons demos.

 

The host site provides a historic backdrop with old buildings, many of which will be available for use for various impressions. There will be a number of field kitchens providing food on site on Friday and Saturday, so there should be plenty to eat for lunch. Breakfast and dinner will be provided by the event!

 

There will be a pub crawl on Thursday night as well as reenactors only events for Friday and Saturday night as a thank you to the reenactors.

 

**Field Kitchens: The Group Leader must also register under the Field Kitchen Registration page in addition to individual registration**

 

Showers are available on site. Indoor restroom facilities are spaced throughout, and additional porta-johns will be on site. Breakfast and food in the evening will be provided on Friday and Saturday, and lunch is from the Field Kitchens on Friday and Saturday.

 

Additionally, reenactor and vendor events are planned for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. If you have any questions or wish to coordinate your display, please contact thetasteofhistoryamherst@gmail.com

 

Parking address: Amherst Junior High School, 548 Milan Ave, Amherst, OH 44001 The parking lot is down the road with shuttles running between the event site and the parking lot during non-event hours. For reenactors showing up during event hours, the school bus shuttle will bring you to the event.

 

Additional accommodations for reenactors: For reenactors who do not want to rough it in the camp area, there will be space in the Amherst Historical Society hall (with bathrooms) to set up sleeping bags, air mattresses, etc. You may also set up in the historic buildings in Sandstone Village with your displays, but all modern sleeping gear must be out of sight during event hours.

The parking lot is about half a mile down the road and there will be shuttles running between the event site, the parking lot, and town on Thursday (for reenactors and vendors only), Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (for reenactors and vendors only).  

 

Additional accommodations for female reenactors: 

For female reenactors who do not want to rough it in the camp area, there will be space in the Amherst Historical Society's hall (with access to a real bathroom) to set up sleeping bags, air mattresses, etc. You may also set up in the historic buildings in Sandstone Village with your displays, but all modern sleeping gear must be out of sight during event hours.
