The Taste of History
Reenactor Registration

Event Time: Thursday - Sunday June 15-18 2023  in Amherst, Ohio

All reenactors must register, whether or not they plan on being part of a kitchen or display set up.

The registration form is found at the bottom of this page.

You do not want to miss this event. It has all the makings of a top notch Public event!

The Taste of History event is a timeline event of military impressions. All eras are welcome from the Revolutionary war to the modern day, with a special emphasis on the food of the common soldier.

This should provide a unique level of interaction with the general public. There will also be a section for WWII homefront with civilian impressions (other era civilians also welcome). While the event is centered around providing period correct meals from field kitchens, there is also adequate space for historical displays including military vehicles and weapons demos. The host site provides a nice historic backdrop with old buildings, many of which will be available for use for various impressions.

There will be organized weapons demonstrations, but as the event is focused on the food that soldiers ate through the ages, displays centered around rations are highly encouraged. There will be a number of field kitchens providing food on site on Saturday and some may be active on Friday, so there should be plenty to eat.

There will be a reenactor blanket sale/swap meet on the parade grounds Friday from 18:00 to 19:00, so plan on bringing some of your disused kit to sell.

The local town is also throwing its support behind the event and there will be organized excursions into town. There will be a pub crawl on Friday night and the event host is also organizing a USO dance for Saturday night including a beer garden as a thank you to the reenactors and donors. For more info, check out the schedule page.

There will be showers available at the Junior High Saturday and Sunday. The event site has a number of public restroom facilities spaced throughout and there will be additional porta pottys on site.

This is shaping up to be one of the best advertised public events in many years and we expect it to be well attended.

Setup begins on Thursday June 15 starting at 12:00 noon.  The main event is Saturday but the displays will be open to the public throughout Friday, so we encourage you to be set up by Friday.
